team. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ayoze, 27, started at left back in the Cosmos’ 2013 Soccer Bowl title-winning game against the Atlanta Silverbacks. During the regular season, he made 13 appearances (with 12 starts) as the Cosmos also won the 2013 NASL Fall Season.

“Ayoze has been a key player for us all season long,” said coach Giovanni Savarese. “He’s adjusted quickly to playing in the U.S. and his ability to play left back and midfield gives us great versatility. I’m delighted that we have been able to sign him to a new deal.”

A native of the Canary Islands, Ayoze joined the Cosmos in February 2013. He originally debuted for his hometown club, CD Tenerife, in 2004. After a spell on loan at Las Palmas in Spain’s third division during the 2004/2005 season, Ayoze returned to Tenerife where he was a fixture until 2010. In the 2008/2009 season, Ayoze made 30 appearances and helped his club achieve promotion to Spain’s top flight. The following season, he made 25 appearances in La Liga and scored two goals.

In May 2010, after CD Tenerife suffered relegation, Ayoze signed for Spain’s Sporting Gijón. During the 2010/2011 season, he helped his new club maintain its La Liga status, making 13 appearances and scoring a goal in the process. In the 2011/2012 Primera División season, Ayoze made another 15 appearances for Sporting Gijón.

“It’s been a great experience for me and my family here with the Cosmos,” said Ayoze. “Winning the Soccer Bowl was a tremendous accomplishment for us and I wanted to stay here to help the club continue its success.”
