The New York Mets announced on Monday that the club has signed Manager Terry Collins to a two-year extension with a club option for 2016.
Collins’ entire coaching staff will also return.

“Terry has a great passion for the game,” said Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson. “He has helped make our younger players better. He’s a great motivator. He has had to overcome a lot this year with injuries and trades. The club played hard for Terry and I think that was obvious for everyone to see. Of course we aren’t where we want to be record-wise, but I think we are on the right course. I think Terry deserved the chance to help us turn things around.”
Collins earned his 600th managerial victory on April 8, 2013 and for the second straight year was a member of the National League’s All-Star Game coaching staff.
“I’m honored to be able to continue what we have started,” said Collins. “The nucleus of young talent in our organization really came to the forefront this year. There is no doubt in my mind that we are headed in the right direction. The won-lost record is not what any of us wanted and that’s what we have to change, beginning in 2014.”
The Midland, MI native was named the 20th manager in franchise history in 2011 after joining the organization the year before as the Minor League Field Coordinator. The Mets are 225-261 under Collins.
Collins, 64, managed the Houston Astros from 1994-1996 and Anaheim from 1997-1999. He also served as the manager of the Orix Buffaloes in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League from 2007-2008 and guided Team China in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
