Lizards v. Outlaws Notes 8/4/13

Here are some notes for those fans who will be watching the New York Lizards (3-9) take on the Denver Outlaws (12-0) in Major League Lacrosse action on Saturday, August 8, in what will be the last of two home games at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Nine Lizards invited to Team USA tryouts:

Drew Adams, David Earl, Matt Gibson, Greg Gurenlian, Brian Karalunas, Rob Pannell, Stephen Peyser, Max Seibald and Kevin Unterstein have all been invited to try out for the 2014 Team USA. Tryouts will be held on Labor Day weekend.

Mock scores six goals in first three games:

In his first three games in the League, Steve Mock has scored a pair of goals in each of his appearances. Of his six goals, two have been from former Cornell teammate Rob Pannell, two from Tommy Palasek, one from Mark Matthews and the last one was unassisted.

Pannell tied for 12th highest scorer in the League:

Heading into week 13, Lizards rookie Rob Pannell is currently tied with Peet Poillon with 33 points so far this season. Of the top 25 scorers in the League, Pannell has played in only eight games, the second fewest of any top 25 player.

Gurenlian still reigns as the ‘beast’ of the face-off x:

Greg Gurenlian is still the ‘beast’ in the face-off X in Major League Lacrosse. Gurenlian who is 195-307 so far this season, is averaging 63.5 % at the X.

The Playoff Picture:

Denver – Currently in 1st place, clinched #1 seed

Hamilton – Currently in 2nd place, can clinch the #2 see with a win

Chesapeake – Currently in 3rd place, cannot be eliminated this week, can clinch with a win over Rochester or a loss to Rochester of two goals or less and a Charlotte and Boston Loss

Charlotte – Currently in 5th place, cannot be eliminated this week, can clinch with a win over Hamilton and a Boston loss

Rochester – Currently in 6th place, cannot clinch this week, will be eliminated with a loss to Chesapeake and a Charlotte win, or a win over Charlotte by less than three goals and a Charlotte win and a Boston loss

Boston – Currently in 6th place, cannot clinch this week, eliminated with a loss and a Charlotte win

New York – Currently in 7th place, already eliminated from playoffs

Ohio – Currently in 8th place, already eliminated from the playoffs, can clinch the worst record with a loss to Boston or a New York win over Denver

Lizards Host Scout Day and Special Needs Awareness Day on August 4:

The New York Lizards announced that they will be hosting Scouts Day and Special Needs Awareness Day on August 4

Scout Day

  • Boy and Girls Scouts will be able to earn their physical fitness belt loop and merit badge by participating in pre-game activities.
  • Activities will include: 40 yard dash, push ups and sit ups, Q & A session with members of the Lizard’s training staff
  • Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms
  • Portion of ticket proceeds to go back to Boy Scouts of America
  • Scout Day activities will take place at Shuart Stadium from noon-3 PM

Special Needs Awareness Day

  • Members of the Nassau and Suffolk County Special Needs and the Garden City Challengers will face-off against each other in a pre-game scrimmage.
  • Scrimmage will take place from 2:30-3:30
