The New York Cosmos announced on Friday the signings of local players David Diosa and Sebastien Guenzatti.
“It is nice that we have a strong core of local talent on this club,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “David and Sebastian are gifted young players who will be solid additions for our squad. I have coached Diosa for a few years now and it will be great to see him continue his development with the Cosmos.”
The Colombian-Born Diosa, 20, played under Savarese as a part of the club’s U-18 and U-23 sides. The forward impressed as a sub in the Cosmos’ friendly match against the Newtown Pride FC, scoring a goal in the matches closing minutes.
In 2010, Diosa tallied the first goal for the Cosmos side in 25 years when he opened the scoring for his New York Cosmos Academy U-18 side in a U.S. Soccer Development Academy match against Connecticut’s South Central Premier.
Originally from Flushing, the 21-year-old Guenzatti most recently played for the Uruguayan side Huracán FC. Guenzatti had a standout high school career at Francis Lewis in Fresh Meadows, also had the opportunity to appear in matches for the Segunda Division club this year.
