Liberty Among leaders in 2013 WNBA All-Star Balloting Thus far

Fans thus far have been cramming the ballot box for their favorite New York Liberty Stars, as the early returns report that guard Cappie Pondexter and center Kara Braxton are among the top vote-getters.

Pondexter leads all the guards in the Eastern Conference with 8,670 votes and Braxton is one of the early leaders in the frontcourt with 1,883 votes.

Cappie thus far has led the Liberty in scoring with 17.7 points-per-game, which ranks seventh in the WNBA. A four-time All-Star (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011), she averages 5.3 boards and a team-best 3.6 through the first nine games.

Braxton, a 2007 All-Star, is averaging a 9.4 points and a career-best 7.7 rebounds per-game. She has led the team in rebounding in five games this season, including a career-high 14 boards in a road win at Seattle this past Friday.

The WNBA will announce the starters on July 18 during the nationally televised game on ESPN2, which features the Phoenix Mercury at the Los Angeles Sparks at 10 p.m.
