The New York Liberty finalized its 2013 training camp roster on Friday, with the additions of Karisma Penn and Loree Moore. The team will open training camp on Monday, May 6 at the Madison Square Garden Training Center.
In addition to the proven veteran free agents Cheryl Ford and Katie Smith, New York has a strong core of returning players that include Cappie Pondexter, Essence Carson, Plenette Pierson, Kara Braxton, Leilani Mitchell, Alex Montgomery and Kelley Cain.
Bill Laimbeer makes his return to the WNBA in his first season as the head coach and general manager of the Liberty. In eight seasons with the Detroit Shock, Laimbeer led the team to six-straight playoff appearances, including three WNBA Championships (2003, 2006, 2008) and was named 2003 WNBA Coach of the Year.
The franchise will welcome four draft picks to training camp, which includes first round selection Kelsey Bone and Toni Young, along with Kamiko Williams and St. John’s University product Shenneika Smith.
New York will open the 2013 season with back-to-back road preseason games against Connecticut and Chicago, and will end exhibition play on Saturday, May 18 at 4 p.m. at the Prudential Center against the Sun.
The regular season home opener for the Liberty will be on May 31 at 7:30 p.m. versus the Tulsa Shock.
