Islanders vs. Flyers 2/18/13

Here are some notes for those fans watching the New York Islanders (6-7-1) take on the Philadelphia Flyers (6-9-1) in NHL action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Tonight is the final game in a stretch of nine-straight in the Metropolitan area for the Isles (Jan 31- Feb 18). It marks the first of four meetings between the Isles and Flyers this season. The all time record between these two teams stands at 91-119-31, with the last regulation victory for the Isles coming on 1/19/12, which was a 4-1 decision.

Last time out for the Islanders:

John Tavares recorded his fourth career hat trick to help lead the Islanders to a 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. The guys broke open a scoreless game in style tallying five goals in the final 23:14 to earn the win over their Metropolitan Area rival. Tavares and Matt Moulson finished the night with four points.

Tavares the Terrific:

John Tavares is on a five-game goal scoring streak (7g) and has 11 goals in his last 10 games. He also has goals in his last five road games (6g). Thus far John ranks second among NHL forwards in average time on ice (22:02), behind Ilya Kovalchuk (25:44).

Good Connection:

Tavares has earned assists on 4 of Matt Moulson’s 7 goals this season. Tavares has been on ice for 67 consecutive Moulson goals, earning assists on 44 of them (dating back to a Moulson goal on Nov. 17, 2010).

Making an Impact:

Lubomir Visnovsky has been on the ice for 11 of the 14 Islanders goals during during his first four games with the team. Andrew MacDonald is tied for 7th in the league in blocked shots with 38, and Matt Martin ranks fourth in the league in hits with 54.

The Islanders and Flyers are scheduled to air on the  MSG Plus Network, with face-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
