For those who may not know, those who play the sport of lacrosse are welcome into a very large family. Ideas such as hard work, dedication and giving back are among themes that are promoted in this world, combined with a fast-paced game that is sure to thrill fans.
First though was a bit of giving back as the guys backed former teammate Tim Goettelmann, who began an organization called Monster’s Kids. Goettelmann, who spent 11 years with the Lizards, wanted to find a way to give back.
Goettelmann one night was reading the book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendack to his children and realized how amazing and precious the moments of having a healthy family are. In 2009 when the lacrosse star knew he was drawing close to retirement decided he’d dedicate his time to giving back and did just that by starting up Monster’s Kids.
Monster’s Kids, which benefits the Steven and Alexandria Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, which is an affiliate of North Shore LIJ has been able to receive a ton of support from the Lizards and has grown to have a ton of great events.
One such event was the Lizards Blizzard event, which was hosted by Mario Diaz and Tamsen Fadal of CW 11 WPIX-TV and produced by Maverick Events. The night which featured a Ping-Pong tournament at SPiN New York, as well as a silent auction, along with food and drinks plus the opportunity to meet some of the guys from the team.
The Lizards who for the first time will get the chance to bring the game of outdoor lacrosse to New York City, as the team is planning on playing two games on Randall’s Island in New York City. For this night though the guys banded together, as a family to play Ping-Pong and help to bring a smile to the kids faces who were in attendance on this night.
