Mets sign righty Marcum

The New York Mets have supposedly signed free-agent starter Shaun Marcum to a one-year deal pending a physical. The franchise has not yet confirmed the deal.

Marcum, 31, went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 21 starts for the Brewers in 2012, whiffing out 109 batters while walking 41 in 124 innings. The starter does not come without injuries, as he has missed more than two months of the season with elbow tightness, following a bout of shoulder discomfort.

Shaun, who had Tommy John surgery after the 2008 season, has fared well holding a 57-36 career record and a 3.76 ERA. Marcum will now join the rotation of Johan Santana, Jon Niese, Matt Harvey, and Dillon Gee.

The franchise still has a lot of holes to fill with less than three weeks remaining till the start of the season. The window is closing on the Mets for a outfielder and a reliever.
