Greg McElroy:

On being named the starting quarterback:

“I was excited obviously. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This is a great moment and a great milestone in my career. Obviously this is something I’ve looked forward to and I’ve dreamed about my entire life. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity. This is a tremendous team. I’m just glad (and) thankful to (Coach) Rex (Ryan) and Coach Sparano for giving me a shot.”

On talking to Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow since he was named the starter:

“I can’t say enough about Mark and Tim. Those guys are unselfish and have been nothing but helpful. I talked to Mark yesterday and he was very encouraging (and) very helpful, and Tim’s been the same way. I can’t say enough about those guys. It makes the situation difficult because you love those guys (and) you want to see them have success, but at the same time I know that if the roles were flipped, I’d be rooting those guys on and they’ll be doing the same for me.”

On getting the opportunity to start:

“I’m excited. I’ve been working. I’ve been working. I’ve been working trying to get better every day, so I think I’m ready. I think it’s a tremendous opportunity (and) a tremendous moment for me. I can’t emphasize enough that this is not a finish line. This is a starting point. You work hard enough to get here, you set a goal for yourself and as soon as you accomplish that goal, you better restructure because (you) want to continue to excel. You want to continue to improve and I’m fortunate enough to have a great supporting cast and a great coaching staff to be able to help me out and make this a lot easier.”

On how excited he was to be named the starter:

“I was excited obviously. This is what you dream of. This is something that you always look into and it’s something you look forward to your entire life. I’m just very pleased and proud to have this opportunity, and proud that (Coach) Rex (Ryan) has enough faith in me to be able to go out there and execute. I’m glad that I have this group of teammates, a great group of guys to be able to help me out and make this transition a little easier. “

On San Diego’s defense:

“San Diego does a great job. They do a lot of different things to make it difficult. (They have) a tremendous front seven. Jarret Johnson is a tremendous player. I remember him at Baltimore last year and they have a really experienced team, so it will be a great challenge for us. It’s something that we’re looking forward to.”

Mark Sanchez:

On his feelings on the quarterback change:

“I respect Coach’s decision. Obviously, I want to be out there playing, so I don’t necessarily agree with it, but when something like that happens, I just do my best to support Greg (McElroy) and support the team and get him ready to play. Then, obviously, prepare like the starter in case I need to go in there.”

On he feels undermined by the organization:

“I don’t know about all that. I feel like I need to play better and put our team in a better situation and take care of the football better.”

On if he’s considered the fact that he could’ve taken his last snap of the season:

“We’re just taking it week to week, so I’ll be ready to play. Obviously, I’m supporting Greg this week. If anything happens, I’ll get in there and then we’ll take next week in stride when we get there.”

On whether he’s frustrated:

“Well, it’s disappointing. You just hate letting other guys down on the team and that’s the worst part of it. You’re going in there, trying to play well and improve and (I) just made some bad decisions. I just have to take care of the football better and own up to my mistakes and get better.”

On if he’s received support the last 48 hours:

“There’s a bunch of support out there, just family and friends. They know I’m going through a tough time and they’ve seen me play better and they’ve seen me win, so they know I can get back there. That’s what I’m focused on.”

Tim Tebow:

On his reaction to Greg McElroy being named the starter:

“Obviously, (I’m) a little disappointed. (You) just try to handle it as best you can.”

On whether Coach Ryan and Coach Sparano gave him an explanation for McElroy being named the starter:

“Not really too much of one. Just that’s what they’re doing and as a player you just, even though you might not agree, you have respect for them and the organization and you just do the best you can.”

On whether he is angry:

“No. I don’t know. Mr. T (Mike Tannenbaum) and Rex (Coach Ryan), they’re all trying to do the best they can just like everyone in this building and they thought that was the best decision for this organization and I respect that. You might not agree, but I still respect it.”

On if it’s hard to believe what has changed since last year:

“There’s always ups and downs and it’s not about how you handle the ups, it’s about how you handle the downs. That’s the true test of your character. For me it’s trying to have a great character and work ethic, and putting this team first and trying to do what’s right and do my best and treat others the way I want to be treated. And that’s been my philosophy since Coach (Craig) Howard taught it to me my first year at Nease and that’s not going to change.”

On how he would describe this season:

“I think it’s had its ups and downs. (I’ve had) a lot of learning opportunities, good and bad. (There are) a lot of things I will take from it and try to better myself as a person and as a football player. Also (there are) a lot of great relationships that have been made in this locker room.”
