The New York Yankees confirmed that they have a one-year deal in place with infielder Kevin Youkilis. The former rival of the Bombers now joins the Pinstripes, will become the third baseman in the Bronx, until the return of Alex Rodriguez.
Youkilis, who will turn 34 in March, will receive a $12.25 million deal, will bring a ton of veteran leadership and grit to New York. The nine-year veteran spent all but 80 games with the Red Sox, and is a three-time All-Star and a former Gold Glove winner.
The infielder holds a career .283 average in 1,033 big league games, recording 148 homers while also tallying 610 RBIs. There are still plenty of deals in the works for the Yankees, including a rumored two-year deal for Ichiro Suzuki.
The Bombers are still in the market for a right-handed hitting outfielder and possibly a catcher, though it is expected for the franchise to go with either Francisco Cervelli, Chris Stewart or Austin Romine.
