Jeter and Cano win 2012 Silver Slugger Awards

Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano earned some postseason hardware on Thursday, winning the 2012 Silver Slugger Award, which is given to the best offensive player at each position.

Jeter wins his fifth award while Cano won it for the third straight season (fourth overall).  Jeter ended the 2012 regular season with a .315 batting average, with 58 RBI’s, and 15 homers. The Yankees Captain suffered a fractured ankle during the 2012 playoffs.

Cano, meanwhile, had a .550 slugging average at the end of 2012, recording 94 RBI’s, and 48 doubles.

The Silver Slugger, which was first awarded in 1980, is voted on by coaches and managers from both leagues. There will be a ton more postseason awards coming the way of the Bombers, along with moves for the 2013 season-so as always make sure to stay tuned!
