It was announced by Minor League Baseball that Yankees Prospect Tyler Austin has been voted on by the fans as the Breakout Prospect of the Year.
Austin who began the 2012 season with the Single-A Charleston RiverDogs, where he played 70 games and hit for a .320 batting average, recording 54 RBI’s, 22 doubles, 14 homers, five triples. Austin became a part of the Tampa Yankees roster on July 3, 2012 playing 36 games, with a .321 average, tallying 43 hits, 23 RBI, 13 doubles, one triple and two homers.
Austin continued his hot hitting when he was promoted to the Double-A Trenton Thunder, as in two games the prospect went 2-for-7 with two runs and one RBI. ]
Tyler who has battled and beat testicular cancer, hopes to one day work with the Livestrong foundation to help raise awareness for this disease.
Austin always takes time to interact with fans, as was seen in person by the staff of 1495 Sports when we did our video chat with the prospect.
