New York All-Stars nominated for 2012 Roberto Clemente Award

Giving back is a legacy that will always be thought of when fans hear the name Roberto Clemente. Both the Yankees and the Mets have All-Stars nominated for the prestigious award and are very familiar faces in giving back to the community.

Mets starter Johan Santana has been nominated for the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award.

Mark Teixeira is always seen as an Athlete in the Community, especially since joining the Harlem RBI as a part of the Board of Directors in 2010. Teixeira has helped co-chair the organization’s capital campaign to build a permanent home for DREAM Charter School and Harlem RBI.

Mark has donated $1 million to the campaign and $100,000 to the Harlem RBI’s college preparation programs.

For the Mets the nominee is ace lefty Johan Santana, who has spent countless hours in assisting his hometown of Venezuela. Starting up the Johan Santana foundation; as the starter has helped to raise vital funds has gone to education and health care for children domestically and overseas.

Johan has also been dedicating his time in helping to find a cure for melanoma, serving as a spokesman for the MLB Play Sun Smart program, donating $100,000 to the NYU Langone Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group.
