New York Liberty re-sign Leilani Mitchell

The New York Liberty announced on their official site that guard and 2010 Most Improved Player Leilani Mitchell is set to rejoin the team for the 2012 season. The terms of the contract were not released per team policy.

Mitchell has been one of the many spark plugs to the Liberty offense, having been ranked in the top of many offensive categories, including assists and three-pointers. During the 2011 season, Leilani started in 30-of-34 games for New York, shooting 0.3.75 from the field.

During the 2010 campaign, the guard started in 24 games-recording 10-plus points 14 times…led the team twice in points and once in rebounding. Known for her heart and ability to use her speed to break down the opponents defense.

The Liberty are currently in the second of three seasons in the Prudential Center, while Madison Square Garden is going a lengthy reconstruction project. The home-opener for New York will be against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m.
