Bombers represent well at the Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards

Robinson CanoDerek Jeter and David Robertson were all honored on Friday night, as a part of the Greatness in Baseball Yearly (GIBBY) Award ceremony on Friday night. The GIBBY Award winners are calculated on four segments of voters, which account for 25 percent of the total vote.

Involved in the voting process, was the millions of fans that frequent the MLB.com site along with front-office personnel and MLB Alumni. The GIBBY’s are the ultimate honor of baseball’s award season, with categories for top player, starting pitcher, rookie, breakout player, comeback player and many others were handed out.

Robinson Cano was given the ‘Wow Factor’ award, as the Bombers’ second baseman was the most exciting player to watch during the 2011 season. Cano had an MVP-type year with the Yankees recording a .302 average, while also tallying 28 homers and a career-high 118 RBI’s.

The Yankees captain Derek Jeter was honored with the ‘Performance of the Year’ award, with the historic 5-for-5 performance on July 9th. Jeter was etched into Bombers history that day, becoming the first in pinstripes to reach the 3,000-hit plateau.

As for Robertson, the Bombers reliever was named as the ‘Setup Man for 2011,’ as the 26-year-old righty emerged as the Houdini of MLB. David recorded a 4-0 record, while also holding a 1.08 ERA and one save in a team-leading 70 relief appearances for the Bombers.

The Birmingham, Alabama native had ton gut-wrenching moments for the Yankees during the 2011 season, wiggling his way out of all of them, holding opponents scoreless in 63 appearances,  leading AL relievers.
