The New York Yankees announced on Saturday, that they have exercised their 2012 club options on second baseman Robinson Cano and outfielder Nick Swisher. Cano is slated to make $14 million next season, while Swisher will make $10.25 million.
Cano is continuing to grow and become into one of the greats to wear the pinstripes, came off a campaign featuring his second appearance in the All-Star Game. The 29-year-old led the Bombers with a .302 average, while also posting a .882 on-base percentage plus slugging. The infielder is also ranked second in the Majors with 81 extra-base hits.
New York will now have Cano as a part of their team for at least one more year, with a $15 million club option for 2013.
Swisher batted for a .260 average with a .822 OPS, tying for fifth among big league switch-hitters in home runs (23) and ranking seventh in RBIs (85). In three seasons with the team, the outfielder has grown a cult-like following at the Stadium….thanks to his hustle and blue collar effort.
