Mets offseason news and notes: 11/25/11

The New York Mets announced on Thursday on their official site, that the organization offered arbitration to free-agent shortstop Jose Reyes. In making this move, the Metropolitans assured themselves of a 2012 Draft Pick if the All-Star should sign with another team in the offseason.

New York also made a move to fill their bench this week, by signing highly-touted outfielder Adam Loewen to a Minor League deal. Loewen, 27, hit 17 homers for the Blue Jays’ Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate in the Pacific Coast league, while also holding a .306 batting average and a .508 slugging percentage in 134 games.

Knuckleball specialist R.A. Dickey has caused a buzz this offseason, as the righty is scaling Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Red Light District Outreach Mumbai, which combats human trafficking in India.
