One of the things that are usually never highlighted in the box scores, or not normally found in the papers is the fact that these athletes are more than just guys who play the game. These are guys who go out and touch people lives on a daily basis.
This is why the 1495 Sports page, is going to dedicate a section to those ‘Athletes’ that are contributing to your community.
The spotlight for Thursday is Mets and Yankees-great Darryl Strawberry, who is taking up the fight for Autism. Strawberry started up his own foundation-which proceeds go towards fighting the disease.

Mr. Strawberry along with a bunch of his celebrity friends was able to coordinate the 5th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow Park on a grey day in New York. Nothing was going to stop Darryl and a bevy of his celebrity friends from coming out and golfing for a cause.
Darryl is also very involved in social networking, as the legend as a Twitter site @DarrylStrawman along with his foundation having a Facebook site-which can be checked out at The Darryl Strawberry Foundation for Autism Awareness.
The former baseball star also was a part of the Citi Softball for Heroes event held last Sunday at Citi Field. Darryl represented the Alumni Association to promote the 9/11 Day of Service. Mr. Strawberry gave generously of his time, and had a great day of interacting with the fans.
Make sure to stay tuned to 1495 Sports as we will continue to dedicate our time to not only great community related events, but also bringing you the recaps for your favorite New York Sports teams!
