It was a Sweet sweep for the New York Yankees (85-53) as they were able to break out the brooms against the Toronto Blue Jays (69-71) by a final of 9-3 on Sunday baseball action.
The Bombers were led by their shortstop and their ace-starter, as Derek Jeter was able to tie a career-high five RBI’s in the victory. Starter C.C. Sabathia was able to record his 19th victory on the hill, the ace-lefty sat down 10 batters in 7 1/3 innings to earn his seventh consecutive victory against Toronto.
Rookie-sensation Jesus Montero continues to hit in the Cathedral, as the prized rookie tallied two more hits in the victory. The Bombers were able to boost their record in day games today, to a big league-best 37-9.
Returning to the lineup for the Yankees was first baseman Mark Teixeira, who missed two games with a sore right knee, and was able to record a hit in the victory for the Yankees.
The Yankees will continue this home stand with a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles, starting on Monday. Game One is slated to feature Freddy Garcia (11-7, 3.09 ERA) going against Brian Matusz (1-7, 9.07 ERA). With the first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m.
