Nick Evans has been waiting a long time to prove to the New York Mets, as well as other MLB teams that he belongs to be in the bigs-make it four seasons to be exact. Since being called up in September, and playing on a daily basis with the Metropolitans the versatile Evans has now seized his moment.

Evans was the catalyst in the Mets (69-71) 12-inning 7-4 victory over the Florida Marlins (63-78) on Tuesday night-going into Wednesday morning, as Nick recorded three clutch hits….which propelled the Amazin’s to victory.

Not only has Evans’ been swinging a hot stick, but has also flashed some impressive leather-reminding Mets fans of a young John Olerud with the plays he has made at first. The New York Mets brass knew that Evans’ had the glove, but were waiting for the bat to come along.

In Nick’s last 12 stars he has hit .360 with 11 RBI’s, four doubles and three homers, and along with playing a very impressive first base-Evans’ is starting to try himself out at other positions next year-so that he may have a spot on this New York Mets team  next year.

Of course the club will have plenty to think about once this year comes to a wrap, as Ike Davis, Lucas Duda and Daniel Murphy are all names the organization wishes to look into as a part of their future-and that is only for candidates in their first base position.

For now though, as long as he can keep swinging a hot stick Evans’ has a spot and a job with this club.

The three game series between the Mets and Marlins will continue on Wednesday, with a 5:10 p.m. scheduled start, as Florida moved the game time to accommodate New York. As the Mets have to hustle back to Citi Field for a double header on Thursday with the Atlanta Braves.

Knuckle ball specialist R.A. Dickey (7-11, 3.60 ERA) will take the mound in the finale for the Mets, and will take on Florida’s rookie starter Brad Hand (1-5, 4.23 ERA) who is looking to avoid his third loss.
