The New York Liberty (14-11) looks to keep cool, and their winning ways against a hot Connecticut Sun (16-8) in WNBA action on Thursday night. As New York look to keep the ‘Rock’ rolling with their second straight victory at the Prudential Center.
Both teams were victorious on Tuesday, though the Liberty’s victory was a bit more dramatic as a Cappie Pondexter driving basket with 13.5 seconds left, propelled her team to a 69-66 victory over the Washington Mystics.
Connecticut can improve to 3-0 against the Liberty this season, as both squads are battling for postseason spots. The Sun handed the Minnesota Lynx their most lopsided defeat of the season, 108-79, as Renee Montgomery had 17 points and seven assists.
Also leading the Liberty in their victory against the Mystics is forward/center Plenette Pierson, who had 16 points, finishing with a 7-for-10 day shooting. Pierson also grabbed two boards and blocked one shot, as her defense will be needed to stop the scorching-Sun team.
Pondexter will be another key to a Liberty victory, as the guard is ranked fifth in the league with 17.9 points-per-game.
The start of the Liberty/Sun game in Newark, NJ is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
