St. John’s looks to continue to build on Sweet Run in upcoming basketball season

After making history by winning the Regular Season and Tournament Championship Back-to-Back the St. John’s Men’s Basketball team returned to the New York City area after a nailbiter against Duke in the Sweet 16.

Seeing some incredible play in the NCAA Tournament, the University took some immediate steps in building upon the success that they are seeing so far by offering Head Coach Rick Pitino to a restructured contact and making him the second-highest paid coach in the BIG EAST Conference.

There are some moves for the team happening as even though it is now the offseason things are a flurry of activity as it is being reported by several outlets that Sadiku Ibine Ayo is going to enter the transfer portal.

The transfer portal is going to be something that is going to be intriguing for those that follow the Red Storm, as many are wondering who may now wear a St. John’s Uniform thanks to the Portal.

Till the portal opens up on the 7th of April, the guys get to celebrate a Sweet 16 run and some Post Season Awards as well.

With many seeing a tryout in the NBA Captain Zuby Ejiofor adds to his incredible resume for those scouts by winning the ECAC Player of the Year in March along with being named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Finalist.

Zuby along with Dylan Darling and Bryce Hopkins were all named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.

It’ll be fascinating to see what type of roster the Men’s Basketball team has when the Season comes rolling along, but for now they get to enjoy the historical run that they had and the fact that they are now a team to be watched for in the world of College Basketball.

Masterclass in Defense leads Gotham to points against Orlando

Showing a complete team play and how solid they can be defensively Gotham was able to hold on to a 0-0 tie in a masterclass of a defensive effort against the Orlando Pride in NWSL action on Sunday.

The player of the match came from the play of Jess Carter as she was for sure one of the standouts on the pitch against a very physical Orlando squad.

Carter was such a huge part to what Gotham did during the match in having to defend Barbra Banda, keeping the forward off the scoreboard in more than one way, as Jess was able to get her foot in for a blocked shot during the course of the match.

Gotham had themselves some other impressive performances as well including the play of Lilly Reale, getting a burst of energy from subs Midge Purce and Jordynn Dudley and also having some milestone moments in the draw.

The milestone moments started with Rose Lavelle being able to play in her 100th regular season match.

Fans are encouraged to enjoy the following video as Lavelle along with Midge Purce and Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós share these thoughts after the tie:

One could see Rose was trying to make the day a special one, breaking out some X-Box type plays, getting herself some incredible scoring opportunities and being just a presence on the field for the team throughout the night.

A nice moment for the Midfielder came as the night continued along, as when Gotham FC was on the offensive side and getting scoring chances in front of the supporters in attendance there was a corner moment incoming.

It was Lavalle walking towards the ball, and in those moment everyone shouted encouragement to her for her 100th game.

After the match Rose was able to celebrate in the best way possible as there was a doggie in Sports Illustrated Stadium and she and the canine companion got to bond after the match.

For the ladies of Gotham the match was a positive step. although frustrations continue to build for this team that has such high expectations of them from the fanbase.

It has been since March 14 that Gotham has scored a goal and with test against Kansas City coming up on Saturday the team has got to figure a way to get themselves a scoring opportunity in order to continue to do well in the league.

The match between Gotham and Kansas City is coming along quickly as the two teams are going to meet on Saturday, April 4th at CPKC Stadium.

Spirit now go on the road for first clash against Denver

With the NWSL now in Boston and Denver, the Washington Spirit can now get themselves a chance to see how they can fare and play in new markets.

Not only that but the ladies are going to be facing new challenges as well as environmental questions with altitude with playing on the road in Denver on March 28.

With the team playing to two draw’s so far one against Racing Louisville and one against Utah, this should be a fascinating test.

But is one that the ladies got to stay disciplined with as Denver is returning to the home crowd feeling great after defeating the defending NWSL Champs Gotham FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Denver in that match did just about everything right, with keeping possession of the soccer ball and capitalizing on Gotham’s mistakes and can gain themselves another notch in the belt of a very young franchise by possibly gaining any kind of momentum by beating the team that won the NWSL Championship in 2021.

One of the leaders on the team in Hal Hershfelt is looking to keep the Spirit going in the right direction though, because the thing that is noticed thus far is that every match the team in the 2026 Season thus far is getting progressively better.

Hershfelt playing with 4,069 minutes with the team has scored 3 goals and helped on two assist in her career and in 2024 was named to the 2024 NWSL Second XI.

In 2026 thus far Hershfelt has 270 minutes played and features a pass completion rate of 86.8%

It should be a great opportunity for the ladies to see a new market and not only that but the match is going to be aired on the CBS Network and to be able to get the quality of soccer in front of a National Audience such as that one.

The first ever clash between the Spirit and Denver Summit is to be played at 2p.m.
