It was an action-packed night at the Prudential Center as Matchroom boxing brought ‘The Fight’ to Newark, New Jersey and a new face of the Heavyweight division is starting to become clearer as Damian Knyba showed that he is the real deal in the division.
The Main Event was one to watch again for sure and a masterclass for those that enjoy the sport in how to stay relentless when it comes time for jabbing an opponent.
Knyba showed his power and his reach throughout to get himself a 117-110, 114-113 and 114-113 result against Andy Ruiz, Jr.
Ruiz Jr, fared well but the offensive flurry from Damian was just overwhelming as things eventually got to a point to where Andy even got knocked down to the campus, and after that the face of the Heavyweight division became clearer as Knyba has himself a chance to show what he can do against bigger and bigger opponents.
The fights thrilled from the start to the finish as fans got to see another hometown favorite in Vito Mielnicki Jr defeating Austin Williams by unanimous decision.
There were also victories for Eridson Garcia and Zaquin Moses.
In the other parts of the bout Dennis Thompson was able to defeat Jose Casillas via unanimous decision, Kahshad Elliott def. Jean Pierre Valencia via split decision and Brooke Mullen def. Bria Miller.
To start the fight night Jordan Simpson was able to def. Michael McDonald via 4th-round TKO.
Things are going to be a fast turnaround for the Matchroom Boxing company as they are currently in Ireland to say goodbye to one of the legends in the sport of boxing in Katie Taylor.
Fighting in Croke Park and putting an end to a career that saw an Olympic Gold Medal, being able to headline places like Madison Square Garden and finally being able to close things in front of her hometown crowd Taylor is going to face a very game Flora Pili today with fans wanting to watch the action can do so on the DAZN website.
