The ladies of Gotham FC currently in first place in the NWSL standings are now getting ready for a road match against Bay FC.
After defeating the Seattle Reign 3-2 at Icahn Stadium, in the most recent match the Bats played to a 1-1 draw against Portland.
Sam Kerr and Midge Purce were the stars in the Portland match, as Kerr was able to net the first since returning to the franchise.
Gotham now has an unbeaten run that got extended to four matches thanks to the tie against Portland.
“Definitely a good game,” said acting head coach Shaun Harris. “I thought the way we started was how we intended to start the game. We came out really fast, we were controlling the ball, dominating possession and we got the early goal, which was something we were pushing for. … There are certain areas we just need to clean up a little bit, be more clinical and probably just be calmer. Overall, it’s a tough place to come, so we’ll take the point, analyze it and move forward to the next game.”
As of late the team is playing in front of larger and larger crowds and getting more and more people to see the excitement and thrill of the NWSL.
The attendance in Portland was 21,743 and there are going to be even larger croweds as the season goes along
Gotham looks to continue to play well against Bay FC, as the franchise has a 4-0-1 record across five all-time regular season meetings.
The next meeting is going to be on July 29 with the action scheduled for 10 p.m. Fans wanting to watch the action can do so on the CBS Sports network.
