In the world of boxing you never know when there can be a blockbuster fight that is going to be announced.
For 35 years Matchroom Boxing has put in front of fans some of the most high-profile fights, staring with Frank Bruno and Joe Bunger in 1987.
With Eddie Hearn leading the way the company is selling over one million tickets and just announced a 5-year partnership with DAZN.
As a part of that announcement, Matchroom gave the fans a fight that is going to go down in the history books as Xander Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) faces Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) for the Unified WBO and WBA World Super Welterweight Title on June 27 at the Barclays Center.
On a beautiful Wednesday in Brooklyn, both Zayas and Ennis took center stage in front of the members of the media to talk about the upcoming fight.
The last fans had seen Zayas, he was in Puerto Rico celebrating his split decision victory against Abass Baraou by split decision to become the unified WBO/WBA junior middleweight world titles on July 31.

Jaron Ennis shares these thoughts with the media:
Zayas letting the media what June 27 is going to be all about for him:
“I still can’t believe it. One of the hardest jobs in boxing is to get Jaron “Boots” Enis fights. The great news is, thanks to the DAZN partnership with Top Rank, we started talking and all of sudden we said ‘I think we can make Xander Zayas versus Jaron Boots Ennis,” said Hearn on having this fight come together. “I’m still in shock and I give the unbelievable credit that Xander deserves because he is a great fighter. He must have a massive set of cojones because what’s about to happen on June 27th is one of the toughest tasks in boxing.”
For many this fight is an intriguing one for Zayas as there are those that feel that the 23-year-old may need more opponents before being face-to-face with a guy like Ennis, but yet when the call came both eagerly signed and made the fight happen.
Hearn reflected on that himself and stated that, “Dangerous, not just dangerous for him but dangerous for Boots because this kid is 23 and he’s one of the hottest young stars in the sport. I would be keeping him away from Jaron. If I represented Xander Zayas, there is no way I would let him take this fight. I’d be saying ‘listen, we’ll go to MSG, we’ll fill that out and we’ll do another homecoming fight in Puerto Rico. We’ll have Bad Bunny singing you out. We’ll milk it. We’ll do this, we’ll move up to middleweight, we’ve got years. But this fight is what boxing needs.’”
Top Rank, a large part of the development of Xander Zayas as a star in the sport of boxing was a part of the press conference, and they themselves got great news when it comes time for the broadcasting portion of what they do as they themselves are now a part of DAZN as well.
Zayas, being put in positions to show as to what he can do for sure put on a show against Boots and here are some of the things that Top Rank President Todd DuBoef sees in the star that got him to this mega fight, ““Dangerous, not just dangerous for him but dangerous for Boots because this kid is 23 and he’s one of the hottest young stars in the sport.
Both Zayas and Ennis was getting into things when it came time for the Press Conference as a rivalry between the two was starting to build as the press conference went along.
It was a verbal battle between the two when it came time to promote the fight, that led to an intense face-to-face session and posing session for the media members.
Xander and Jaron could not take the eyes off another as the guys were trying to get into the other’s heads early on before the night of the fight.
For Ennis some of his top fights include a victory against Eimantas Stanionis in April of 2025 to unify the IBF and WBA (Super) welterweight titles and capturing the Ring Title. The victory against Custio Clayton on May 14, 2022, was the moment that established ‘Boots’ as a welterweight contender and many more.
Jaron is going to come into the Barclays with an impressive 31 knockout record and he feels for sure that June 27 is going to continue that trend.
“I think Xander bit off way more than he can chew,” said Ennis. “Come fight night, he’ll see. I’m going to show everyone that I’m the best in the world.”
Both guys are going to fight for legacy that night and that is something that Zayas reflected on that and why this fight had to happen by saying, ““It’s always been about legacy. Becoming the youngest world champion at 22 when I did it. Youngest unified world champion. And now fighting one of the best in the world in the division. It’s about legacy. Anybody could have taken the easy route and just get an easy win and that’s it. I want to fight the best. I want to show that I’m the best every time I step into the ring. And that’s what I’m going to do on June 27.”
Zayas is bringing 13 knockouts to the fight night and he has a 56% knockout rate, in addition to that he is also going to be bringing a ton of other things to the fight night that Ennis has not seen yet and had expressed that by saying, ““Everything (I do is an advantage). I mean, [Ennis] has never faced an athletic fighter like me.”
