Red Bulls get close but fall to D.C. United 2-1

It was in the second half of play that a packed Sports Illustrated Stadium got to see the true style of the Red Bulls, but unfortunately it was the visiting side of D.C. United that gained the three points with a 2-1 victory.

With an atmosphere and energy that was an energetic one, those that were in Harrison on Saturday got to experience one heck of a soccer match as the East Coast Rivals clashed.

It was the renewal of a long time rivalry in the MLS, and it was one that left fans on the edge of the seats.

Fans of the New York Red Bulls are encouraged to view the following video as Head Coach Sandro Schwarz, along with Carlos Coronel and Felipe Carballo share these thoughts after the loss..video is compliments of the New York Red Bulls:

The first half saw D.C. United looking to regain swagger putting all the players to the net and getting scoring chances towards the net. Eventually the visiting side got rewarded as João Peglow gained the first goal of the match.

From there it was all the visiting side and the defensive efforts that was the trending topic.

A nice note (even though the article is about the Red Bulls) was to see former New York City FC Goalkeeper Luis Barraza getting the start and playing well for the Washington D.C. based team.

Getting back to the play of the play on the field Peglow impressed with a ESPN Calibur style bicycle kick goal at the 44 mark.

From there it was in the second half it was the Red Bulls getting so so so close to getting a tie that those Red Bulls supporters were left in awe of the possibilites of how many goals the guys could have gotten.

The Red Bulls were connecting and finding each other on some wonderful passing and were able to figure the defensive efforts of the visitors at the 57′ as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting found the back of the cage.

For Choupo the goal was the fourth of the MLS season, as he also has a goal contribution in four-straight matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

After that the opportunities kept pouring in, including a chance by Felipe Carballo, Cameron Harper and Emil Forsberg.

It was the shot by Forsberg that was the closest, as those could see the emotions from Emil as that could have been the momentum chaning opportunity.

Some of the postive things that came from the match were the fact that there were stats in favor of the guys including the Possession % which was 64.2 -35.8, the total passes which was 576-272.

The good news for the guys is that they are back to training and are going to have a chance to rebound and continue to show the quality and caliber of play in the team’s next match against Montreal that is going to be played on April 26 at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with those wanting to catch the action can do so on the MLS Season Pass.
