Playing a style and quality of soccer that left many in Sports Illustrated Stadium impressed, the ladies of Gotham FC were able to defeat the North Carolina Courage by a final of 3-1.
It was an impressive display for the ladies as they played on all sides of the field, defending, finding each other and when it came time for putting the shots on the net all shots were towards the Courage goalkeeper so that the ladies would get the three points in front of the Bats Faithful.
Especially the Second Half of play, the aggression that the ladies played with is something that if continued througout are going to make them a team to watch for in the 2025 season.
Speaking of that offense they were led by Esther as she scored twice in the match, and then the franchise got to see the first ever goal by Lilly Reale.
Reale along with Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros and Midge Purce all shared these thoughts after the match….video is compliments of Gotham FC:
There was a moment on the second goal by Esther that was something that fans of New York could appreciate, as she made her first attempt and continued to stay tenacious and on the soccer ball and kept shooting and chipping away until it found the back of the cage.
In the goalkeeper spot Ann-Katrin Berger was impressive making several acrobatic saves.
The ladies of Gotham FC are now in a tie for fifth place in the NWSL and put together some impressive stats against the courage which included expected goals (2.32-0.44), total shots (21-9) .
It’ll be back to training and preperation as the ladies go on the road to take on Angel City FC on Friday, April 18 with the match between those two scheduled for 10:30 p.m.
