Thought it is early in the season, to be able to pick up a road victory against Racing Louisville is a great sign for the Washington Spirit.
The three-points is the second for the club on the road, and it is something that shows hopefully the direction and the vision of the team.
Leading the way was Leicy Santos and Ashley Hatch as they both provided highlight reel moments. When it comes time for Hatchy the tally in the 75th minute was the 50th in her Spirit Career, as she trails Christine Sinclair and Megan Rapinoe for the most goals with a single club.
One of the themes for the ladies was the defensive play as the ladies were able to hold Louisville to two shots in the first half. Another fascinating stat was the fact that they had 69% of the possession.
Gaining the shutout was Aubrey Kinsbury, which was the 29th in her career.
The ladies thus far have been tallying up a ton of victories on the road as since the start of 2024 they won nine away matches, which is tied with the Orlando Pride for most in the league. The ladies also have a 18-0-1 mark when scoring first in the regular season.
With the momentum and positive energy on the side of the team, the ladies after training and preperation are going to head to Florida to take on the Pride on Saturday April 19 at 5:00 p.m.
It’ll be a fascinating thing to see how the Pride is going to make adjustments against the Spirit and the gameplan that they hope to bring in, as in the last meeting between the two the ladies started the 2025 season in the best start possible by winning the 2025 Challenge Cup.
