Even though the St. John’s Men’s Basketball team is on the verge of making history by winning the first ever outight regular season BIG EAST Title in 40 years, the journey is just getting started for his squad.
As the team is currently preparing to take on longtime rival Seton Hall on March 1, there is a game against No. 21/22 Marquette, the BIG EAST Tournament and well the potential of going Dancing in the NCAA Tournament to all start to get excited for.
Somehow or the other this team is just staying very focused on each moment that is presented to them, as anticipation and media support continues to build.
Especially with a very tough Seton Hall Team waiting for them on Saturday. How big of a game is the one versus the Pirates, well the game originally to be played at Carnesecca Arena moved to Madison Square Garden.
This year’s St. John’s Program is making a ton of history, especially in the game against Butler, as the guys captured a record 16th BIG EAST victory. The previous record stood for 40 years as the team went 15-1 during the 1984-15 campaign and went to the NCAA Tournament Final Four Round.
Seton Hall is playing very well as of late playing some stellar defense. With this current clash, the Red Storm is going to look to sweep the Pirates for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
Somehow or the other the guys are going to have to figure a way to regain the form that helped them to see a 89-75 victory against RV/RV Connecticut at MSG on February 23.
In the game against Butler the guys did gain a 76-70 victory, but the overall style of play is something that Coach Rick Pitino felt could be improved upon.
Leading the way against the Bulldogs was RJ Luis Jr as he led all players with double figure scoring with 24 points.
Luis Jr. along with forward Zuby Ejiofor sat down with members of the Media along with Coach Pitino in a press conference held by the University on Friday.
For those wanting to see the full thoughts from the press conference can view the video below:
It was fascinating to see the different subjects that were covered on Friday afternoon, including the fact that the team is not going to cut down the nets on Friday, as they are not going to overlook Marquette and the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament that is to be played at MSG.
In addition the team as well as those covering the team is chatting about who they feel the MVP for the BIG EAST Conference is going to be as well as the Coach of the Year Honors as well.
All of the excitement, awards and hard work is all starting to lead to the team’s biggest moment and against longtime rivals Seton Hall on March the 1 at Madison Square Garden.
The game between St. John’s and Seton Hall is scheduled for 2:15 pm with the action to be aired on CBS in what is a tremendous opportunity for the guys to showcase what each University’s style of play is in front of a Worldwide Audience.
