Game Management is Key for NYCFC in next Test in Cali

After going to Florida for the very first test of the Major League Soccer season, the next test for the Boys in Blue is going to be on the road and going up against LAFC in California.

With a ton of first and an opportunity to see how the guys can respond to things such as coming back from the opposition scoring first and seeing how the defense responded against a tough Miami team, it is now time to see how the guys respond to going up against a team like LAFC.

The Boys in Blue have a ton of experience on the side of the roster, including the fact that they have played the second match four times on the road.

When it comes time for playing against LAFC the record in four meetings stands at 1-0-2, with six goals being scored.

As they enter into the action, they are going to have to defend a three-match unbeaten streak, the predicament is this year’s squad is going to be a tad different along with the tatics of Head Coach Pascal Jansen.

The team is responding well to Coach Jansen at the healm as they are for sure combining passes in a way that those that follow the team are seeing and in addition the team’s defense is standing taller and blocking shots, which was a huge trend during the team’s preseason play.

Coach Jansen and Midfielder Hannes Wolf took the time to interact with members of the media on Zoom to share the thoughts on the upcoming match against LAFC.

Wolf in his second year in the MLS and with the Boys in Blue, bringing the following stats with him in the 2025 Season. The midfielder played in 270 matches, scoring in 50 goals and 26 assists.

Fans are encouraged to watch the video below with thoughts from both Coach Jansen and Wolf…video is compliments of New York City FC:

The best news for the Boys in Blue is the fact that the guys have a 1-0-1 record at BMO Stadium, while being able to score on the road.

Things are going to be fascinating between the two squads, as the stats comparision are very close. LAFC is having the edge in total shots with 39, with NYCFC having 43, but the stats that are in NYCFC favor includes the fact that they have the lead in shots on target with 17.

One of the biggest lessons learned from the Inter Miami game was how the team is going to manage things going forward and that is a lesson that Coach Jansen is hoping to impart on his roster as they progress during the course of the year.

How can the team react differently going into the later parts of the matches, holding on to the lead and to those vital road points.

Breaking news from NYCFC is the fact that the team resigned Alonso Martínez to a contract. Alonso a huge part of the team gaining points on the road against Inter Miami, also has given the team many incredible moments and memories during the course of the 2024 Season as well.

In addition to being a leader the forward also has one of the fastest hat trick in club history, scoring three goals in just 10 minutes, and is becoming one of the best forwards in the league.

That is something that is going to be seen in the team’s next test in Cali as they take on LAFC on Saturday, March 1 at 10:40 p.m. For more information on New York City FC fans are encouraged to click on the link seen here:
