It was an incredible day for the NWSL as with a stadium filled with soccer fans, and playing in front of a TV crowd of CBS the Washington Spirit and Orlando Pride put on a match to remember for the NWSL Championship.
A clash of the No. 1 and 2 seeded teams playing at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, both teams impressed with the style of play.
The match started with an opportunity by Orlando as legendary women’s soccer player Marta attempted the first scoring chance in the 15th minute.
From there it was a ton of action on both sides of the pitch, prior to the first goal of the match by Orlando as in the 28th minute Barbra Banda for the fourth goal of the postseason.
After a fun filled half for the fans, it was a question of how things would conclude between two incredible franchises as the Spirit gave all they could in trying to tie up the night.
There was an incredible opportunity by Ashley Hatch around the 42′ to get the momentum on the side of the Spirit.
From there the opportunities were so close for the Spirit as they tried to figure how to solve the riddle of the Orlando Pride defense.
At the conclusion of it all it was the Pride and the legend Marta concluding an eight-year long journey of winning a championship, hosting the 2024 NWSL Championship.
It was an incredible night for the Icon as Marta got to play in front of her Mom for the first time ever on U.S. Soil.
After the final whistle sounded the forward fell to her knees and hoisted her fingers in the air in triumph as her teammates quickly surrounded her, in celebration of the Franchises first ever championship.
The victory for the Pride caps an incredible year, as the ladies broke a league record for most points in a season (60), most victories in a season 18, and most clean sheets in a season (13).
As for the Spirit there is a ton to be proud of as well, as the ladies got to play in front of record-breaking crowds at Audi Field, got to see the development of some of the stars of Women’s Soccer and concluding the 2024 season with an incredible record of 19 victories.
