Rough Results for NYCFC thus far as anticipation builds for match against Miami

It is a tough road thus far for the Boys in Blue as they have faced losses to Columbus, went down to the Nation’s Capital and tied against DC. United and then returned home to Yankee Stadium and fell to the Ultra Tough Philadelphia Union by a final of 5-1.

When it came time for the result the frustration could be felt not only on the pitch but also by those in the stands as three points on Wednesday could have helped the guys in the quest for the 2024 MLS Playoffs.

If somehow or the other the results would have been different those that followed NYCFC could have seen the guys in a completely different spot, but they are in Sixth place with a 11-7-11 record going into one of the most anticipated matches of the year on September 21 when the guys take on Inter Miami.

In the first half it was all the Philadelphia Union as goals from Tai Baribo opened up the floodgates from other scoring by Mikael Uhre, and Daniel Gazdag as a hush fell over the crowd at Yankee Stadium.

Things started to get intriguing, and hope was renewed for New York right before the half as Alonso Martínez scored with a right footed shot from the center of the box that was assisted by both Kevin O’Toole and James Sands.

For Martinez the goal was the 12th in MLS play and thus far the forward is playing very well as he scored in the last six home games in league play, while totaling eight goals and two assists.

According to the NYCFC PR people Martínez now joins Midfielders Maxi Moralez and Andrés Perea in goals scored (2) out of any New York player currently, with Midfielder Hannes Wolf being the only other player to have scored against Philadelphia on the current roster, with one goal.

As the Second Half began there were plenty of chances by NYCFC as Head Coach Nick Cushing put in Mounsef Bakrar and Maxi Moralez into the match. Ultimately it was the Philadelphia Union scoring twice as Jakob Glesnes and Jesus Bueno wrapped up the three points for the visiting side.

Things are tough right now for the guys as they march towards the 2024 MLS Playoffs as thus far, they are on an eight-match winless streak, the last victory for the guys came on July 3 against CF Montreal a 2-0 decision at Citi Field.

The countdown is currently on for the Boys in Blue as on Saturday, April 21 the team hosts Supporter Shield leaders Inter Miami at 2:00 p.m. at Yankee Stadium.

One of the hopes for those in the New York area when it comes time for Inter Miami coming into town is the fact that soccer icon Lionel Messi play with his MLS squad. There are also a ton of stars on the visiting team side as Leonardo Campana leads the team with six points.

Inter Miami also features a roster of Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez and Jordi Alba as there is thus far a ton of buzz and anticipation building for the match between the two MLS clubs on the 21.

Coach Cushing and his team gets back to the training pitch and preparation to hopefully get his team back on track and to the winning ways for the rest of the 2024 MLS Season.
