Big Road Win for the Washington Spirit as they Head to Washington D.C. to host Angel City

Hoping to get back to the winning ways and going up against a tough Racing Louisville squad the ladies of the Washington Spirit were able to grind out a 2-1 victory at Lynn Family Stadium on Friday, May 10.

Showing a new attacking formation the ladies were able to score early thanks to Midfielder Croix Bethune, as she netted the fourth of the season. Thus far Bethune is one of the highly ranked rookies with eight goals + assists through nine matches this season, as she is not only first in the NWSL but first among the franchise.

There were a ton of impressive performances including that of goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury showed why she is one of the tops in the NWSL making several stellar plays throughout the match including stopping a penalty kick in the 20th minute. With that moment Kingsbury is tied for third in the NWSL with six penalty kick saves.

Ouleymata Sarr helped the Spirit double up the score with a goal in the 34′ giving the team a ton of momentum and confidence that was continued by a wonderful goal scoring opportunity by Ashley Hatch.

Overall, the road trip is a successful one for the team as they were able to gain six points int he two-week, three match road trip. One of the more impressive stats compliments of the Spirit PR Department is the fact that team was able to have 18 points and 18 goals in nine matches and that is the highest such total to this point in the season in club history.

Now the ladies get to return to the Washington D.C. area as they host Angel City FC at Audi Field in a match to be played on Saturday, May 19 with the action scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
