With everything going the way of Gotham FC the ladies were able to earn the first home victory of the season with a 1-0 decision against the North Carolina Courage on Saturday at Red Bull Arena.
The feel-good moment for the ladies is seeing the goal scoring capabilities of Lynn Williams, for the first of the 2024 NWSL Season. Lynn has 65 in the regular season and that is ranked second in the league all-time. Williams’ goal was also the 300th goal in all competitions in the history of Gotham FC.
After that it was up to the defense of the ladies to stand tall and to try to keep the Courage offense at bay and it wasn’t an easy task. North Carolina had themselves plenty of quality opportunities including a chance at the 27th minute as Narumi Mirura tried for one on net, thankfully Ann-Katrin Berger in the second start of the season made the save.
Berger showed her quality and why she was brought in to the team by making several highlight style saves during the course of the match, and thanks to her fine effort got her first shutout in NWSL play.
Continuing to build on her success from her debut with the club against Racing Louisville, Rose Lavelle continues to make a positive impact by showing her fine dribbling and scoring abilities through the rest of the match.
With the team coming from the first home victory of the year, the ladies are going to see how they can keep the momentum going on the road as they have two away games upcoming. Up first on Wednesday, May 9 the ladies head to Houston to take on Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros former team the Houston Dash.
The game between Gotham FC and the Houston Dash is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
