After a huge victory in Chicago the ladies of the Washington Spirit are going to have a quick turnaround in what is going to be a tough match against the Portland Thorns on Saturday, May 4 with the action scheduled for 10:00 p.m.
With a milestone night on Wednesday as the team having a historic four-goal performance in the 4-2 victory against Chicago the ladies are looking to keep the momentum going against Portland.
It is not going to be an easy task though as heading into Portland where the atmosphere is going to be totally in favor of the Thorns and going up against the likes of Sophia Smith is one that many teams have to rise up too.
The challenge of figuring a system to beat the thorns, what type of tactics and defense are going to be on the field is one that Interim Head Coach Adrián González is going to be implementing once the action gets going.
On Friday the Spirit had media availability with both González and Midfielder Andi Sullivan as the duo talked more in depth about the match.
Sullivan reflected as to what it is going to be like going up against the Sixth Man in Portland and the quick turnaround after the match against Chicago.
Andi appeared in her 100th career NWSL regular season start joins Aubrey Kingsbury and Ashley Hatch as the only players to hit 100 starts with the team.
The great news for Sullivan is the wide range of experiences that she has with not only the Spirit but the USWNT and is looking to bring just that in the match that is to be played on Saturday.
Getting back to the match against Portland the ladies of the Spirit have positive trends in the fact that they have Forward Trinity Rodman back into the scoring groove as Trin is one of the many that helped the team in the victory against Chicago.
Rodman has some impressive numbers with the Spirit as with the goal and assist in the match against Chicago she has her 39th and 40th goal contributions in the NWSL.
For the Spirit they are looking to achieve a first for the franchise, as they have not been able to gain a victory in Portland.
There are a ton of new faces on the 2024 version of the team including Croix Bethune and Brittany Ratcliffe leading the way.
This is going to be the second of a three-game road trip for the team, as the ladies after this go to Louisville, KY to take on Racing Louisville in a match that is going to be played on Friday, May 10.
