With an opportunity for New York City FC to cement their spot in the 2023 MLS Playoffs, the guys lost a 2-0 decision to D.C. United in MLS action on Saturday at Audi Field.
It was an emotional night for both squads as for the home side of D.C. United even though the team sits in Ninth Place in the MLS Standings, which usually qualifies a team for the Playoffs, because of the overall record of 10-10-14 the team is mathematically eliminated.
Because of that it was announced afterward that D.C. United announced that Head Coach Wayne Rooney has left his role as the head coach of the team.
D.C. United during the course of the 2023 Season is led by Christian Benteke as he scored 14 goals, while Mateusz Klich led the way with Nine Assists.

One of the toughest trends for NYCFC thus far is the fact that the team has not been able to find results on the road, as the guys have a 1W-8L-8D record.
Throughout the match both NYCFC and D.C. United saw some early exchanges, as they both played an exciting style of soccer. It was around the 14th minute when Santiago Rodríguez found Kevin O’Toole. It was O’Tool putting the shot on the net that was saved by D.C. United Goalkeeper Alex Bono.

That is going to be the team’s Decision Day at Citi Field, as things stand currently, the guys have a chance mathematically at the 2023 MLS Playoffs but are going up against a tough Chicago Fire squad.
Chicago currently sits in 11th Place in the Eastern Conference Standings with their 10-13-10 mark and are led by Maren Haile-Selassie with his six goals.
The good news for the Boys in Blue though is that they have played well in front of the crowds at Both Yankee Stadium and at Citi Field. Prior to the match vs D.C. United the Boys in Blue are playing well since last august, as they have scored nine goals and recorded four shutouts.
