USWNT Days away from Huge Match vs Portugal on Tuesday

With the action of the 2023 FIFA World Cup being at the highest of quality and tons of history being made with each match that is played, more and more excitement builds for the USWNT as the ladies get ready to take on Portugal.

As the growth of Women’s Soccer being more and more apparent by the day, the hope is that with each year the sport grows more and more and becomes one where everyone can enjoy the quality of the action that is on the pitch.

There were so many trailblazers that helped the sport get to where it is currently and one of the more iconic players in the game in Megan Rapinoe sat down to talk about legacy, about her new role with the USWNT and lots more.

To see what Megan had to say in the USWNT’s Press Conference fans are encouraged to check out the following video compliments of U.S. Soccer/Veritone

It was on July 8, 2023, days before heading to her fourth World Cup that Rapinoe announced that she is going to retire from the sport of soccer, and this would be her passing the torch on to the next generation of soccer superstars.

For all of those sports journalist in the world to try to find words on Rapinoe and the legacy she is going to leave behind is going to be one of the more interesting tasks. How to put into words the story of the kid from Redding, California that found the sport of soccer and from there has become and advocate, a pioneer and an overall icon in the world of sport.

The midfielder already starting to get her flowers via the various commercials that are made, and in time the movies and the mini-TV series about her and her life are going to come along to share the story of Megan and how she helped to elevate the sport she loves so much.

One of the biggest adjustments that Rapinoe has to make is passing on the blueprint of success that she has gotten to the current USWNT players, all while waiting for the chance for that one magical moment to help lift the squad to victory.

There are going to be moments when fans are going to see Rapinoe play, there are going to be moments when Rapinoe and her amazing knowledge of soccer comes in to help her teammates make adjustments…there are so many ways that Megan can help the current USWNT team win.

As for the sport of women’s soccer, there has been so many ways where the imprint of Rapinoe has helped the sport as a whole.

One of the many ways that Megan has helped is the fact that she is an outspoken advocate for equal pay. It was during the team’s 2019 Women’s World Cup Finals when Rapinoe and teammates shined the light on the fact that the women’s soccer team were earning less than their male counterparts.

Rapinoe stood tall and was eloquent and helped to inspire women around the world to start to make a change in their lives as well.

In addition, Megan has also stood up for the Black Lives Matter movement, along with LGBTQ rights.

Thankfully there are things like the Players Tribune as well as her autobiography entitled ‘One Life’ in the world so that when the full story is to be told it can be done so with Rapinoes memories and points of view.

It is going to be fascinating to see how the USWNT balances the rest of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as they have a ton of talent on their roster. Who do they call in as subs, is the starters going to be the same for each match.

Either way there is a ton of excitement building as the ladies prepare for their third match against on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Eden Park in Auckland. All the action airing at 3:00 a.m. on the FOX Network.
