One of the nice things about the 2023 MLS season is the fact that teams get a chance to add the players that they feel like they are missing through the transfer window.
With the window open and plenty of incredible talent to choose from, New York City FC got themselves a heck of a singing in Forward Mounsef Bakrar.
Bakrar comes to NYCFC after playing with Croatian side NK Istra, having made 33 appearances at the domestic level and scoring eight goals while tallying three assists.
The addition of Forward Mounsef is going to take the some of weight off the young and developing New York City FC strikers, as his vision and striking ability is going to hopefully help.
One of the many other reasons why the franchise added Bakrar, is the fact that he has been able to play a huge role in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup with Algerian team ES Sétif scoring one goal in 13 matches across both competitions.
NYCFC has thus far built themselves a history of making the MLS Playoffs and Championship runs, so they are hopeful that Mounsef and his playoff experience can be a winning combination.
Bakrar is on a contract through 2026 with an option for 2027.

Mounsef is a talented and dynamic forward who enjoyed a fantastic first season in Europe and we are excited for the impact he will have on our roster, while also adding quality and depth as we enter the latter stages of the season and toward the Playoffs”
“With Mounsef’s experience at Club level and with the Youth National Team in Algeria, coupled with his experience in Croatia, we believe that the move to Major League Soccer will be an excellent next step in his career, Lee also said. “While at only 22-years of age, Mounsef’s best years are ahead of him, we look forward to helping continue his development.”
Bakrar also brings experience from the U23 Algerian National Team with him as well. The forward has been featured with them on six occasions and scoring one goal.
