Mind Candy Helping Mystics go all in as team gets ready to Host Indiana

With so many ups and downs during the course of the season, one of the things that is going to be vital for a team is some sort of unifying factor.

For the 2023 edition of the Washington Mystics (9-7) is the idea of Mind Candy. Guard Brittney Sykes reflected on that after the team’s practice session held on July 6.

Fans can hear more about the philosophy of Mind Candy and how it has impacted Sykes thus far and also hear from Li Meng and Head Coach Eric Thibault by checking out the video below…video is compliments of the Washington Mystics:

Mind Candy, also the thought of the day, has been one of the unifying factors of the team, as Coach Eric shares a saying with the team, and the team sits around and share their reflections on that saying.

To be able to all sit together and learn from those who have won Gold Medals, MVP Awards, players who have played internationally there can be a ton of perspectives shared and that allows for the mind to be open to new ideas and experiences.

That has been able to help the Mystics as they have been on a roller-coaster ride of having to see those on their roster injured, those on their roster who got the call to play internationally and now players on the roster being traded and adding new additions to the squad.

With the Indiana Fever coming into town there is going to be a bit of full circle moment, as the Mystics and Fever just made a trade with the other as Queen Egbo and Amanda Zahui B. are going to be switching up locker rooms.

The Mystics looking for size and a rebounding presence with the absence of Center Shakira Austin, as she is mending from her left hip strain injury.

With Elena Delle Donne and Natasha Cloud also questionable for the team’s next home game against the Fever, the team is looking to see who the next woman to step up their game is going to be, as they hope to regain their winning ways.

Thus far Sykes, Ariel Atkins, and Tianna Hawkins has been three such athletes stepping up, as the team tries to figure out the puzzle of their roster prior to the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game.

One of the things that fans are going to watch for is the return of Li Meng, as the guard is in the Washington D.C. area after helping Team China win the Gold Medal during the 2023 Asia Cup.

Meng prior to leaving for Asia started to get a ton of positive momentum going her way. In the game against the Phoenix Mercury on 6/16 Meng showed off an impressive stat line of having a career-high 14 points, on a best in field goals and three pointers made.

Now Meng hopes to translate her experiences from her Gold Medal performance to the Mystics as the team progresses in the quest for the WNBA Championship.

The stage is set as the Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever play the other in WNBA action on July 7 in the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington D.C. The tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
