On a beautiful night at Citi Field, and with 15,122 in attendance to cheer on their favorite team. Both New York City FC and Charlotte FC provided fireworks of a different kind in bringing an exciting style of soccer and ultimately a 1-1 draw in MLS action on 7/5/23.
The result has everyone surrounding the club feeling positive, especially this is the first time that the Boys in Blue were able to gain a point against Charlotte.
Another interesting fact from the night is the fact that this is the seventh-straight match unbeaten for the guys, as they are now tied with the New England Revolution for the longest active unbeaten streak in the league.
At first it had seemed as if the match was going to go the way of Charlotte, as in the 17′ McKinzie Gaines took the air right out of Citi Field with the first goal of the night. Gaines scored on a right-footed shot from outside the box to the top right corner of the goal.

1495 Sports Correspondent Kim Dillinger brings this introduction as New York City FC Head Coach Nick Cushing shares his thoughts on the 1-1 Draw vs Charlotte FC:
There were a ton of impressive moments and so many close calls, as Talles Magno had fans in the area oohing and ahhing with his amazing dribbling ability.
From there it was mainly a defensive effort by both clubs that sent the visiting side with a 1-0 lead at the Half.
With the supporters fully behind their Boys in Blue, there was a new energy to the squad when Gabe Segal and Gabriel Pereira came onto the pitch.
Thanks to the reenergized legs and some wonderful combinations the team found the tying goal in the 81′ thanks to a goal by Braian Cufré.
For Cufré the goal was his second of the season, Cufré’ played a big part in the most recent matches the team has played, as he assisted on Forward Matías Pellegrini’s goal against CF Montréal.
There were some other interesting stats as Magno had four shots with four on target, with an expected goal rate of 0.38.
The team now gets back to training and preparing for their next big moment and chance to swing momentum on their side. As they next go on the road to take on the Columbus Crew for the second and final time in the MLS Season on July 8 at 7:30 p.m. The match is going to be played at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio.
