New York City FC return to Citi Field to play host to Charlotte FC

After a festive celebration for the Countries Birthday the Boys in Blue are hoping to provide fireworks of a different kind in playing an exciting style of MLS soccer, as they next host Charlotte FC at Citi Field with the kick-off scheduled for 7:39 p.m.

The team is on a bit of a high after their first road victory a 1-0 final over FC Montreal, and first one as the team has been on an 11-match winless streak.

Helping to score the lone goal in that match is Matías Pellegrini, as his amazing shot was nominated for Goal of the matchday.

NYCFC saw another special moment in the match against Montreal, as the debut of homegrown Nicholas Benalcazar happened in the 81st minute. Benalcazar has been a part of the NYCFC roster since 2016. Nicholas plays a huge role in the NYCFC II club and is hoping to make an impact during this time on the main roster.

Head Coach Nick Cushing and Midfielder Justin Haak share these thoughts prior to the team taking on Charlotte FC in MLS action on 7/5/23…..video is compliments of New York City FC:

There is one thing that is of a concern though, and that is that NYCFC has not been able to figure out Charlotte FC. Thus far the Boys in Blue has played Charlotte three occasions since the North Carolina based MLS club joined the league, and thus far it has been Charlotte that comes out on top.

The thing that is going to be intriguing is that this is going to be charlotte’s first time visiting Citi Field.

One of the things to watch for when it comes time for MLS clubs is how do they make the adjustments to playing in a venue like Citi and Yankee Stadium, as things are a bit different in terms of the way the field is set up.

One of the things that has been in favor of NYCFC is the fact that they have a 4W-2L-3D record at home this season.

Some of the players to watch for on the New York City FC side are going to be Santiago Rodríguez, Gabriel Pereira, and Defender Maxime Chanot have all scored against Charlotte.

There has also been a ton of positive feelings and vibes around the club, as Coach Cushing has been consistent in his verbal message to both the media and supporters that he feels that it is just a matter of time before the team starts to see more winning results.

Coach Cushing and the team have been putting in a ton of work at the Team’s Training center all in the hopes of finding those results.

This is going to be one of the toughest challenges to date though as New York City FC takes on Charlotte FC in MLS action on Wednesday night. The kick-off time is scheduled for 7:39 p.m. with fans hoping to catch the action can do so on MLS Season Pass.
