New York City FC earns Fourth Draw against a tough Atlanta United Squad

As the MLS season draws closer and closer to the month of July and the eventual MLS All-Star Game, New York City FC (4-8-7) has been on a bit of a streak when it comes time for earning a point in their matches.

Thus far the Boys in Blue have had four draws in a row, the latest on the road against a very tough Atlanta United (7-8-4), as they are in fifth place in the MLS standings.

One of the toughest things about Atlanta is playing in Mercedes Benz Stadium, as the supporters are fully behind their squad.

NYCFC got things going on the strongest note possible on a goal by Gabriel Pereira 42 seconds into the match. The tally for Pereira was the second against Atlanta United this season, and the first since their last match in April.

With the crowd of 42,557 rocking the Stadium, Atlanta roared back with a goal by Tyler Wolff in the 11′, as he blasted a right-footed shot to the high center of the goal.

Fans of New York City FC are encouraged to check out the following video featuring thoughts from Head Coach Nick Cushing and Defender Tony Alfaro…compliments of New York City FC:

There was a ton of great back and forth action with neither team gaining the lead as they went into the half with a 1-1 tie.

Coming back onto the field, it had seemed as if the half reinvigorated NYCFC, as Pereira struck again in the 55′ thanks to an assist by Richard Ledezma. For Pereira the brace is his first with NYCFC, and his sixth overall goal during the season, as he has played well with the club thus far.

Atlanta though showing a real spark and quality tied things up again in the 94′, that was when forward Nick Firmino headed in the ball to the bottom left corner.

From there both defenses were able to keep each other in check and thus the fourth draw in a row for NYCFC.

There were some impressive matches for the Boys in Blue, that shows the team is starting to trend in the right direction. That included the play of Alfredo Morales as he had an impressive 94.4% passing. Stephen Turnbull won eight duels and what was a nice moment for the team when Keaton Parks got his first helper of this MLS Season at the 55′.

The road trip for New York City FC is going to continue as they head to Providence Park, the place where the team won their first ever MLS Championship during their incredible 2021 run and going up against the Portland Timbers.

Portland currently sits in 10th place with a 5-6-8 record, hope themselves to get a good showing in moving up the Western Conference standings.

The match between New York City FC and Portland is set for Saturday, June 24 at 10:30 p.m. with fans hoping to catch the action can do so on Apple TV.
