Team Play leads New York Liberty to 89-71 victory over Phoenix

Featuring some beautiful passing and stellar overall team play the New York Liberty soared in the 89-71 victory over the Phoenix Mercury in WNBA action on Sunday.

This is the first of three-games between these two iconic WNBA Franchises, and it was the Liberty shining the brightest thanks to their team play.

With the Barclays Center rocking with Liberty fans, the team finished on an 48.4% (30-62) shooting from the field to go along with 34.6% (9-26) from three. In addition, they had an 83.3% (20-24) at the free throw line.

One of the keys to the team’s success is the team’s passing as they were able to total a whopping 25 assists on 30 made baskets, that included 18 on 20 made baskets int eh first half.

Not only was the team’s passing impress, but also the team’s defense was able to tally six steals, while forcing 16 Mercury turnovers. The team was so solid that they caused four shot clock violations by the Mercury.

As for the offense helping to lead the way was Breanna Stewart, as she finished with a game-high 28 points on 53.8% (7-13) shooting from the floor. Stewart had herself a night from the three-point arc going 50% (3-6) from three.

Stewart did a bit of everything in grabbing 14 rebounds and a seven-high seven assists. The performance for Breanna is her seventh double-double of the season.

Also having an impressive performance, showcasing some impressive low post moves is Jonquel Jones, as she added 13 points on 50% (5-10) shooting from the floor, in addition to having a season-high 11 rebounds and three assists.

Rounding out the leaders is Marine Johannès with 10 points on 50% (4-8) from the field, including 40% (2-5) from three, in addition to having three assists and two rebounds.

Up next for the Liberty they hope to keep their team play going as they go on the road to take on the Atlanta Dream in a game set for June 23 with the tip slated for 7:30 p.m.
