2023 Hudson Rivery Derby set to be a thriller as New York City FC looks to rebound against the Red Bulls

One of the most thrilling days in the year for New York Soccer fans is whenever the Hudson River Derby gets played. It is the day on the calendar that always gets marked off as one for fans to have as a day off, as two of the greats in the world of MLS get to clash.

This is going to be a huge test for the boys in blue, as they have not had the results that they had hoped for on the road, and any time that they go up against the Red Bulls that is one that the team wants to win.

New York City FC fans are encouraged to check out the video below featuring thoughts from Head Coach Nick Cushing…video is compliments of NYCFC :

The Boys in Blue are looking great so far in the MLS standings as they sit in Fifth Place, and they go against a Red Bulls squad who is currently struggling to find good results.

This is going to be the 22 meeting between these two clubs, as the Red Bulls have played well against NYCFC holding the 10-8-3 record. It was in the 2022 season though that the Cityzens were able to sweep the season series for the first time in the franchise’s history.

Helping to lead the way in the two victories were Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos as he recorded the game-winner in Red Bull Arena, and Alexander Callens and Santiago Rodriguez helped to propel the squad to victory at Yankee Stadium on September 17, 2022.

There are a few members of New York City FC roster that can lend their veteran experience to the 2023 Hudson River Darby, on the offensive side of the pitch Santiago Rodriguez and Matias Pellegrini both have scored against the Red Bulls. In addition, Defender Maxime Chanot has been able to play the most matches against the Red Bulls (12).

Chanot had these thoughts to share about going up against the Red Bulls, the team’s mentality thus far and lots more. Video compliments of NYCFC:

As for the Red Bulls they have a great story in Bronx-native Omir Fernandez has helped to lead the way for the squad. Thus far Fernandez has been able to score in the last U.S. Open Cup appearances and in the squad’s most recent match against D.C. United.
The stage is set as it is hours away from the 2023 Edition of the Hudson River Darby.
