The road woes for New York City FC continue as the guys dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Toronto FC in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.
There were a ton of positives for New York City FC, as they had their total number of passes in the regular season with 594.
In addition, the Boys in Blue were able to keep Toronto off the scoreboard for a whole first half of play, which is something that is very impressive.
NYCFC fans are encouraged to check out the video below to hear thoughts from Head Coach Nick Cushing after the team’s tough loss to Toronto…video compliments of New York City FC:
Thus far NYCFC has been able to hold the opposition without a goal in the first half of play in nine of their ten MLS Regular Season matches. No team has done this more in the League during the 2023 MLS season.
Fans of the team are also encouraged to check out these thoughts from Midfielder James Sands …video is compliments of New York City FC
Playing well in the cage for the Boys in Blue is Luis Barraza as he had made five saves against Toronto. Thus far Luis is coming into his own in the net as he has made 19 saves in the last four appearances.
Also having an impressive match is Thiago Martins as he attempted 116 passes in the match. This is the second time this season that a NYCFC player attempted 95 passes or more in a single night.
Ultimately though the bad news is the fact that Toronto FC was able to figure out how to get the goal that stood the test of time, as CJ Sapong, had the lone goal for the three points.
There were some interesting formation changes that were made by NYCFC Coach Cushing as he put Matias Pellegrini and Kevin O’Toole in the Starting XI. As the match progressed he was able to sub in Alfredo Morales and Andres Jasson in the hopes that they could provide fresh legs for the squad.
The guys will have a chance to return to the training pitch to make the corrections necessary and are back on the road to take on Charlotte FC for what will be another tough road test at the Bank of America Stadium on Saturday, May 6
.
