New York City FC roster about to change with Loan of Thiago Andrade

One of the things that is amazing about the Major League Soccer season is when players have an opportunity to play for another team.

New York City FC will see a huge shift in their roster thanks to the fact that they are going to loan Forward Thiago Andrade to Brazilian side Clube Athletico Paranaense through December 31, 2023. This deal includes an option to become permanent if he reaches certain performance criteria.

NYCFC Sporting Director David Lee said: “We believe this is a great opportunity for Thiago to return home where he will be able to continue his career development. We would like to thank Thiago for his contributions in New York and look forward to following his progress throughout the season. We wish him all the best with his new team.”

Andrade has made a positive impact to the New York City FC Franchise, as since his arrival in 2021, he was able to star in 71 matches. Thus far in his time in the uniform he was able to score 12 goals, while recording five assists.

Thiago was a huge part of the Concacaf Champions League, the US Open Cup and the 2022 Campeones Cup. One of the more memorable moments for Andrade was the iconic goal in the 2021 match against D.C. United.

Thiago Andrade said: “I want to thank everyone at New York City Football Club for giving me the opportunity to come to this great city and helping me develop into the player I am today. It’s been an honor to represent this Club, winning championships for this City is something that I will always remember.”

“I look forward to returning to Brazil and the prospect of this new challenge. I would like to wish everyone at NYCFC the best for the rest of the season.”

The big question for fans of New York City FC and Head Coach Nick Cushing is how will the role of Andrade be filled as the 2023 MLS season progresses.
