Thriller for New York City FC in Home Opener against Miami

n front of a roaring 24,489 at Yankee Stadium New York City FC was able to earn a 1-0 victory over Inter Miami. Starting to play the style of soccer that had helped them win the MLS Cup in 2021 and qualify for the Playoffs.

While it is still early on Head Coach Nick Cushing was very impressed with his team’s style of play, especially in the Second Half of the match.

One of the more impressive players during the course of the match was midfielder Santiago Rodriguez, who had his first start with NYCFC since returning to the club as a Designated Player through 2027. Rodriguez showed off his speed and passing ability throughout the night, as he was able to have 30 accurate passes (79%), two accurate long balls and three total shots.

New York City FC has always played well in front of their home crowd, as they have won their last three home openers (2021, 2022, 2023). Thus far NYCFC has a 6-0-2 mark in their home openers.

Inter Miami Head Coach Phil Neville had these thoughts after the team’s loss to NYCFC:

Impressing in the net for the Boys in Blue was Luis Barraza, who had his first clean sheet in a very young MLS Season. This was also his first shutout since the 26th of July of the 2021 season, that was when NYCFC was able to tally a 5-0 victory over Orlando City SC.

Up next for New York City FC will be a clash against MLS foe DC United on Saturday March 18, the start time for that is set for 7:30 p.m.
