Second Day of BIG EAST Tournament rocks MSG with action packed day of Hoops

The second day of the BIG EAST Tournament thrilled fans with some action-packed College Basketball, in front of rocking crowds and enthusiastic fans.

In the second game of the day The University of Connecticut defeated Providence 73-66. Helping to lead the way for the Huskies was Jordan Hawkins who had 19 points, while Tristen Newton tallying 16 points and Adama Sanogo rounding out all scoring with 10 points.

As for Providence they showed why they are going to be a team to be reckoned with if they are selected for the NCAA Tournament, Showing heart and grit throughout the game. Helping to lead the way in scoring was Bryce Hopkins who had 16 points and Noah Locke who had 14 points.

Up next Xavier was able to defeat DePaul in a close 89-84 decision. Helping to lead the way for the Musketeers was Jack Nunge who had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Colby Jones had a strong showing with 22 points and Adam Kunkel and Souley Boum both had 16 points each.

As for DePaul they showed true heart and grit throughout the BIG EAST Conference season, as Umoja Gibson had 22 points and Nick Ongenda had 16.

In what was probably an upset for most College Basketball fans, in the finale of the Tournament Creighton was able to upset Villanova 87-74. The Wildcats who are normally known for their stellar defensive style of play could not find an answer for Creighton and their potent offense.

The Bluejays had a total team effort as five players all had double figure scoring. One of the leaders for the team was Ryan Kalkbrenner as he was able to finish the night with 21 points on a 9-for-12 shooting night.

As for Villanova they also had five players in double figure scoring, as Eric Dixon led the way with 20 points. Caleb Daniels and Brandon Slater both had 17 points each.

The BIG EAST Tournament will continue to thrill fans on March 10 as Number 1 seed Marquette will take on the University of

Connecticut in a game that is slated for 8:30 p.m. After that the No. 2 seeded Xavier takes on the No. 3 seed Creighton with the tip for that set at 9:00 p.m.
