With the march to the 2023 NWSL season quickly progressing, Gotham FC finds themselves in their final week of training at IMG Academy in Florida. During that time the team will have a chance to play in their third preseason scrimmage as they will have a friendly match against the Chicago Red Stars on Thursday, March 2 at 11 a.m.
After the team completes their training on Friday, the ladies will have a chance to return to the NY/NJ area for three weeks of training to get them ready for the 2023 regular season opener. That opener will take place on March 26 at Angel City FC. Gotham FC will have their first chance to play in front of their home crowd on April 1, when they take on the OL Reign at Red Bull Arena.
“The most exciting thing (during camp) has been seeing how the players are taking in our style and system and seeing how they are working together to do their best to be a successful team this year,” said Gotham FC Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “This has been a fantastic environment, whether we have been on the pitch or off the pitch. We’ve been here for almost a month, and I’ve told them how impressed I have been with how they have supported each other. They have been outstanding.”

Gotham FC will have a chance to see their entire complement of players on the pitch, as serval of the possible starters will return from national team duty against Chicago.
“These last few days have been about (the national team players) adapting to the way we do things and trying to get them up to speed with our style,” said Amorós. “They are all very intelligent players and they have caught up quickly. They are ready to compete.”
The ladies have looked sharp as of late, building great connections and showing chemistry while on the pitch. In their most recent scrimmage against FSU the team saw goals from Margaret Purce, Sinead Farrelly, Victoria Pickett, and Taylor Smith.
The excitement to the team’s home opener and the start of the 2023 NWSL season continues as fans and followers alike get ready for what will be an action-packed season of soccer.
